INWOOD HOTELS LOVES THE EXHIBITION “ANNEES 80”

Fashion, design, graphic design in France during the 1980s... these are the themes evoked in this new exhibition of the Musée des Arts Décoratifs.

Do you also feel nostalgic about the 1980s?

Of course you appreciate this new era full of novelties, arrived with the XXIst century, but you would still like to go back in time a few decades? The eighties are your teenage years and your best memories? It's certainly because the fields of fashion, music, politics, culture and design were in total metamorphosis and even for some...at their peak!

The reason: freedom of expression, enjoyment, affirmation, and even audacity!

Yes, the 1980's are the generation of the 50's, but it is also a period that appeals strongly to the new generation Z (those of the 2000's). Many twenty year olds are "fans" of these years and live them through music and fashion at their parties. It must be said that the eighties were a real musical revolution, propelling hip-hop, post-punk and new-wave as well as French variety. Even the fashion knows a new breath which puts the extravagance in first line with bright colors, haircuts in all the directions.

So if you loved your youth or would have liked to have known this phenomenon of effervescence and frenzy, prepare your next outing to see the exhibition "Années 80. Fashion, design and graphics in France" in the nave of the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in the 1st district of Paris. It is on display since October 13, 2022 and ends on April 16, 2023.  Attention, it is not open on Monday. From Tuesday to Sunday from 11am to 6pm you can go there to see it.

THE 80'S, THE YEARS OF FRENZY THAT PUT EVERYONE IN AGREEMENT

The 1980's resound in France as a political and artistic turning point. 1981: the election of François Mitterrand. 1989: the fall of the Berlin Wall, which marked the end of a bipolarized world. The wind changes on all continents. It is in parallel an evolution on the design, fashion and advertising sides!

700 works are presented to us: objects, furniture, fashion silhouettes, posters, photographs, clips, record sleeves and fanzines... Enough to fill our eyes and teleport us into this new era. We speak of a "pileup of forms and colors", which fits perfectly with the 1980s. It is the postmodernism that opens all artistic possibilities.

Through this exhibition, we see the emergence of creators who will reinvent the codes. For example, the furniture is no longer just "form and function" it will then take on "meaning", or the look becomes the expression of a personal language, or even the development of global visual communication combining marketing advertising agencies and graphic design of public utility of graphic designers' workshops.

To quote some designers: Philippe Starck, Martin Szekely... For fashion designers: Jean Paul Gaultier and Thierry Mugler, personalities who break the codes and redesign the silhouette and its style. For advertising and graphic design: Jean-Paul Goude, Jean-Baptiste Mondino...

We strongly recommend you to go and see the exhibition at night! It's possible on Thursday night until 9pm! You will have the impression to enter a time machine, and you will be amazed by this explosion of colors, forms, and tastes!

We also advise you to attend the "CLUB80 party" organized for the occasion by the Museum of Decorative Arts this Thursday, October 20, 2022 with a showcase of the artist ELOI, but also DJ sets of Andrew Vanwyngarden of the group MGMT and the singer Fishbach.

Don't wait any longer and come discover the universe of the 1980s with a journey elaborated around 3 themes: a new political and cultural era, design in effervescence and the look of the 80s!
