In July 2024, Paris is set to become the center of the sporting world as it hosts the Summer Olympics & Paralympics for the first time in a century. This prestigious event, bringing together athletes from around the globe, is more than just a competition. It's a celebration of excellence, diversity, and global unity.

With the Seine River as a backdrop and the iconic landmarks of the French capital, the Paris Games promise to be a dazzling spectacle, blending tradition with innovation. The City of Light is preparing to welcome the world's most talented athletes, ready to push the boundaries of their abilities and inspire millions of spectators worldwide.

By providing a majestic setting and emphasizing sustainability and inclusion, the 2024 Paris Olympics & Paralympics are poised to be an unforgettable event, celebrating sport in all its forms and uniting people around universal values.

A Century in the Making...

Paris has previously hosted the Olympics twice before 2024. The 1900 Summer Olympics took place from May 14 to October 28, marking the first time the City of Light hosted this global sporting event. The second edition in Paris was held from May 4 to July 27, 1924, further solidifying the city's prestige as an international center for sport and culture.

An Extraordinary Opening Ceremony

On July 26, the Seine River in Paris will transform into a prestigious avenue for athletes from around the world. For the first time in Olympic history, the opening ceremony will not be held in a stadium. Each national delegation, composed of 10 to 500 athletes, will parade on boats representing their countries, sailing in a spectacular procession along the Seine from the Pont d'Austerlitz to the Eiffel Tower.

This unique 6-kilometer parade through the City of Light will feature artistic performances, with artists accompanying athletes and showcasing Paris's iconic bridges and monuments in lively and perfectly choreographed displays. Spectators will be awed by landmarks such as the Musée d’Orsay, Notre-Dame Cathedral, Pont Alexandre III, and the Louvre Museum. It promises to be a historic and unforgettable event.

A New Sporting Era...

The 2024 Olympics & Paralympics herald a new sporting era with the inclusion of contemporary disciplines like breakdancing, surfing, climbing, and skateboarding. These sports, representing youth, creativity, and innovation, reflect the evolving global sporting interests and aim to attract a diverse audience. Alongside these, traditional Olympic disciplines that embody the essence of the Games will continue to be honored, ensuring high-level competition with remarkable international participation.

Showcasing French Sports Excellence

France has a rich Olympic & Paralympic history, having won over 700 medals over the years. Sports where French athletes excel include athletics, cycling, fencing, judo, swimming, handball, and sailing. Iconic athletes include Marie-José Pérec, a triple gold medalist in athletics, and Teddy Riner, a prominent figure in judo with multiple gold medals and world titles.
