Roland Garros 2018
A PRESTIGIOUS TOURNAMENT
My dear readers,
Every year at the beginning of June, the world will turn its attention to Paris and more particularly to the famous tournament of Roland Garros.
This year the long-awaited event will take place from May 21st to June 10th.
Around the world, the name of Roland Garros is synonymous with the prestigious tennis tournament. But please do not misunderstand, behind the name of this Parisian stadium hides a pilot and not a tennis player as you might think!
Roland Garros was a French aviator, pilot lieutenant during the First World War. His celebrity first came from his sporting exploits by plane, and especially from the very first crossing of the Mediterranean Sea aboard a monoplane.
Today his name is associated with the tournament of the French Tennis International because it takes place in the stadium that bears his name.
Created in 1925, Roland Garros succeeds the French Championship created in 1881. Organized by the French Tennis Federation, it is one of the four Grand Slam tournaments.
Roland Garros is considered as the second most prestigious tennis tournament after the Wimbledon tournament.
The first edition opens first to men and has only about ten registrants. In 1897, the event opens to women with 3 participants.
The first editions attract neither the crowd nor the press but it was not until 1903 that the championship gained momentum with the first victory of Max Decugis. 8 times champion of France, he becomes a national star. The championship of France becomes the biggest tournament in the country.
A SCHOOL OF LIFE
Tennis is one of my passions. If I remember rightly, I played for the first time when I was 6 years old. At that time, you can imagine, I use to do what I could but from the beginning I hooked with this sport. I think I was a little talented since I continued!
What I like most about tennis is the competition. Competition is something I have always had in me. I like the idea of finding solutions, to surpass myself. Good mental strength is necessary for the success of this sport.
One of the peculiarities of tennis is certainly the fact that players find themselves alone in the field. It is therefore impossible for the player to have the advice and comfort of his coach. It's a real mental challenge.
The tennis player is literally in a fight and it is true that it is sometimes a big challenge to stay positive. That is why it is essential to be mentally strong and have strategies to avoid discouragement.
Although very difficult, I still believe that tennis is an exceptional sport that can train us on several fundamental aspects such as character, discipline, self-control, autonomy.
My kind readers, remember that sport remains a school of life and that tennis allows you to surpass yourself!
See you soon,
